External Wall Insulation:

External wall insulation (ewi) is a composite system made up of a board of insulation attached to the external wall of the building. By doing this you will reduce you’re heating bills and in turn your carbon emissions by adding external wall insulation to your building you are basically adding a jacket around the house this will stop a lot of the heat escaping from your home.

Having external insulation fitted will reduce you heating bills by up to 50%. There are also government grant available of up to €8,000. Anyone can avail of the grant as long as your house was built before 2011. There are no hidden catches.

The system we use is Fast Eco Build, the system is applied in a number of steps.

1. The insulation board is added to the wall by an adhesive and it is also mechanically fixed to the wall.
2. Fast base coat and alkali resistant class fibre mesh combined to give the best impact resistance category 1 this is embedded into the insulation board.
3. A coloured primer is applied to the basecoat when it is dry. This adds water resistance and added adhesion to the wall for the final step.

A low material acrylic is added to the wall. There are over 250 colours to choose from. There is also a five year guarantee with external wall insulation. Of which two years is with the contractor and a further three years with Fast eco build.

Homeowners  may be able to get a grant from SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland ) they have a number of different options available for you.

Certain conditions apply for the grant, these are as follows.

• Grant approval from SEAI must be in place before any purchase of materials or commencement of measures undertaken.
• The grant offer, once accepted by the applicant, remains valid for six (6) months from the date of issue of grant offer notification.
• Applicants to the Better Energy Homes scheme must use Contractors who are active on the registered Contractor List at the time of works.
• The measure being applied for must be for newly fitted materials / products and cannot have been incentivised previously in the particular home under any other grant programme.
• Qualifying expenditure includes materials and labour except in the instance where a Contractor is completing works within his own home in which case only the cost of materials will be deemed qualifying expenditure.
